Israeli Soldiers in Action I was very interested to read your article “A Shark Hunt in the Night” (World Affairs, July 15) but, with regard to your description of Israeli soldiers in action, I felt that you were trying to portray these men as heroes of the war on terror. That they certainly are not. I think your report would have been far more balanced and much nearer to the truth if you had shown these same soldiers uprooting olive trees, destroying civilian infrastructure; showing them also terrifying and humiliating the Palestinian population for years and years and years, showing them suppressing the Palestinian revolt in a bloodbath....

Pakistan, Al Qaeda and the Taliban “The Most Dangerous Nation In The World Isn’t Iraq. It’s Pakistan” (Oct. 29) is a well-analyzed, albeit alarming read. Pakistan makes for a great case study in which a supposedly well-intentioned allied nation (against terrorism) is itself the most potent breeding ground for militancy. Pakistan’s liaisons with extremism throughout its history are to blame for the mess the country is in today. With the fire blazing in his own backyard, President Pervez Musharraf has the immense task of shattering the unholy alliance of the mullahs and the radical groups....
