Jurmain made the crack dolls after a local drug counseling program asked for special help. Like the earlier models, the new dolls are designed to caution kids against having babies before they’re ready. They also show the dangers of drug-addicted mothers. ““They scream longer, and they shake terribly,’’ Jurmain says. ““They also don’t respond as quickly.''
Most of the 1,000 dolls sold so far are used in high schools. All the dolls have a microprocessor that teachers can set to track how long they cry before they’re held. If a doll is neglected, an ““abuse light’’ turns on. With crack cocaine, of course, the abuse light needsranean recipes phe mother lights up.
