At their best, the easy-to-digest documentaries are a skillful, engaging blend of science, entertainment and high-grade home movie. At their worst-and much of the panda installment is rough going, heavy on the strangely monotonous Winger and light on the bears–they’re oddly naive and preachy. Funny how “In the Wild” features only endearing, easily anthropomorphized animals. What about, say, James Woods with bats, or Shannen Doherty with rattlesnakes? Talk about wild.
