After getting the cut looked at by the training staff, James stayed on the court to shoot the free throws. Despite drawing blood, James remained in the game.

Typically, a player must leave the court if blood is drawn. Perhaps because the laceration was not deep, the training staff was able to stop the bleeding quickly.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver was interviewed by ESPN’s Sage Steele during halftime. Silver addressed why James was not removed from the game. “If he stops bleeding, he does not have to come out of the game.”

Simple enough.

UPDATE: James’ mom came to check up on his boo-boo before the start of the second half.
