Following President Donald Trump’s cancellation of the Warriors’ possible White House visit and his continuous criticism of NFL players protesting racial injustice and police brutality, NBA players and coaches faced questions about their feelings on Trump and taking political action as professional athletes. LeBron James, who called Trump a “bum” after the president’s tweet about Stephen Curry and the Warriors, was the most vocal of anyone and didn’t back down from his original comment.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who previously called Trump “dangerous” and “embarrassing,” spoke for more than 10 minutes about the president and racial inequality in America. James and Popovich had the most to say, but they were far from the only NBA figures to address Trump and the politicization of sports.
