Fox Sports’ digital arm is laying off more than 20 full-time writers and freelancers, according to Awful Announcing. The most high-profile name leaving Fox is blogger and podcast host Jimmy Traina, creator of the Hot Clicks blog at Sports Illustrated.

Fox declined to comment Wednesday, but a source told Sporting News the final toll could be up to 30 writers losing their jobs. Most of them were involved in a digital sports newsletter that never gained an audience.
Fox’s digital unit laid off most of its regional sportswriters last June. ESPN dismissed up to 300 mid- to senior-level executives last October.
Layoff stories are my least favorite to write in this depressed media environment.
Here’s hoping the pink-slipped Fox writers land on their feet.
