The lawyer, Bob Hinton, texted the AP, “Heaven help us if one of the conditions is to pee in a bottle.” He also wrote about a receipt “which purports to reflect” that Manziel made a purchase of $1,018.77 at a Gas Pipe store — a head shop where one may purchase drug paraphernalia — less than a day after his hit-and-run car crash.

The defense attorney also indicated his team was seeking a plea deal in Manziel’s domestic violence case. Lead counsel Jim Darnell has said his client won’t plead guilty.
Hinton told the AP his messages were protected by attorney-client privilege and threatened to sue if the contents of the messages were published.
