Boebert is a popular member of the Republican Party who has a reputation for her outspoken and sometimes controversial beliefs. Among other things, the Colorado representative is known as a fierce advocate of gun rights and even owns a restaurant where staff are encouraged to openly carry firearms. One of her recent divisive stances is her characterization of the House inquiry into the Capitol riots as a “sham witch hunt.”
Her “hottest” honor came courtesy of Jesse Kelly, a right-wing commentator who hosts a radio program as well as a show on The First, a digital-first TV network. Boebert recently appeared on his show, where she held up the award that has her name spelled as “Lauren Boebart.” In close-ups of the certificate, it appears as if someone tried to correct the misspelling with black ink by amending the incorrect “a” in her last name to the correct “e.”
Boebert was also given a Red Lobster gift card as part of her award, which caused the chain restaurant’s name to become a top trend on Twitter on Friday.
The Twitter account Patriot Takes caught the misspelling and shared a photo of Boebert holding up the award.
Patriot Takes also shared a video of Boebert’s appearance on Kelly’s show, where she discussed the Red Lobster gift card.
“Jesse, I do think that $27.43 is under the gift limits, but if we check with Ethics and it’s over, this is coming right back to you,” Boebert joked.
“Yes, ma’am, I understand that we’re going to do the best we can to up that to $30 next year, depending on how the show does,” Kelly replied.
Political commentator Keith Olbermann took notice of the misspelling and used the opportunity to mock both Boebert and Kelly.
Along with sharing the Patriot Takes’ post, Olbermann wrote on Twitter: “The one in which @laurenboebert accepts the “hottest” woman in Congress award from RWNJ @JesseKellyDC and neither notices it spells her name wrong.”
He added: “OTOH it came with a Red Lobster gift card and please note that is LOBSTERS and not CRABS.”
Kelly noticed Olbermann’s post, and he responded with his own tweet. It read: “Oh man. You got us, Keith. I feel so dumb.”
Newsweek contacted Boebert for comment but did not hear back in time for publication.
