We’ve all had that fear, whether it’s getting one of your shoelaces trapped in the escalator blades or looking up from your phone a little too late so that you stumble off rather than making a graceful exit.

For most of us, that’s all it is, a fear that will never creep its way into reality, leaving us free to carry on with our day after we step off.

But for Aine Geraghty, that nightmare became reality.

In a viral video shared on the social media platform TikTok, Geraghty could be seen lying down at the foot of an escalator with her purse and other items nearby.

As the camera panned down, it could be seen that her trousers were being pulled down after they got caught in the teeth of the escalator.

Fortunately, she managed to see the funny side of the bizarre situation and was seen laughing during the whole clip.

Since being shared Tuesday, the video has managed to rack up some 2.7 million views.

The vast majority of commenters also saw the funny side and were keen to share in the bizarre moment.

One TikTok user posted: “I know you are mortified but taking it better than I would. It is funny.”

Another added: “At least you were with a friend. Imagine that happening on your own. You’d have to move to Mexico and change your name.”

A third said: “That’s just unlocked a bonus level of anxiety in my brain. I’m laughing but it’s not funny.”

Others, however, shared their fears about escalators and noted that they would be more careful in the future.

One posted: “I have always been terrified of escalators, even as a kid. Now I know my feelings are valid. Nothing has happened to me with it too.”

In an update video, Geraghty revealed that she later cut her dress out from the teeth of the escalator using a pair of scissors.

There have been numerous occasions where embarrassing videos have gained traction on the social media platform.

Earlier this month, a hilarious video went viral after a child in the U.K. told the mailman why their mother could not come down to meet him.

In the clip, the child uttered the immortal words: “Mummy’s upstairs having a poo.”

The mailman then replied: “Oh, tell her there’s a parcel in the cupboard.” He then made a swift retreat.
