The Cardinals recently promoted James Bettcher to defensive coordinator from outside linebackers coach after Todd Bowles accepted the position of head coach for the Jets and former Steelers’ defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau turned down the position for a similar job with the Titans under coach Ken Whisenhunt. The Cardinals then hired Bob Sanders as a linebackers coach. Although no specific role was mentioned, the team could potentially have Sanders split the responsibilities of that job with Foote since inside linebackers coach Mike Caldwell left to join Bowles and the Jets.

Foote, 34, played for the Steelers from 2002-08 and 2010-13, spending the 2009 season with the Lions. Last season, he had 84 combined tackles and one interception with the Cardinals.
