The Owls have had three consecutive 3-9 seasons under former coach Charlie Partridge, whom FAU fired in November. Florida Atlantic has not gone to a bowl game since 2008, when Howard Schellenberger coached the team to a 7-6 record and a win in the Motor City Bowl.

Kiffin, who has made previous head coaching stops at Tennessee, USC and the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, has spent the past three seasons at Alabama.
