The Chiefs ended up scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter, ending with a 31-20 victory. It didn’t take long before people started noticing a similarity between this game and the Falcons’ Super Bowl loss to the Patriots in 2017. Kyle Shanahan, you’ll remember, was the offensive coordinator for Atlanta in that game.
Atlanta got out to a 28-3 lead, and the game appeared to be over. But then the Patriots came roaring back, outscoring the Falcons 25-0 in the second half. Obviously 28-3 is more dramatic than 20-10, but the similarity was there.

Shanahan rued the missed opportunity to give the 49ers franchise a sixth Super Bowl title and erase the Falcons’ collapse.
“We didn’t convert those third downs there in the fourth quarter,” he told reporters postgame. “When you don’t convert those third downs and you don’t get an explosive run, you end up giving them too many chances.”
“Kansas City played a good game, they were better than us today and we can deal with that, but we’re obviously pretty disappointed,” Shanahan added.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Shanahan blowing yet another sizable lead in the Super Bowl.
