If passed it will unlock $369 billion to fight climate change, introduce a new minimum 15 percent tax on corporate profits reported to shareholders by large companies, and give Medicare more freedom to negotiate the price of certain medications....

The regional government of the Canary Islands estimated the volcano has already caused 100 million euros, or $116 million, in losses for the island’s banana industry, the industry that provides 30 percent of the economic life of the island. Over 390 acres of banana plantations have been ruined, and more than 700 additional acres have been cut off from roads, covered in lava on the island’s western side. ASPROCAN, the banana growers association for the Canary Islands, estimated that around 1,500 of the island’s 5,000 banana plantation owners have been hurt....

On Monday, the NHL Players Association announced it would not exercise its option to reopen the current collective bargaining agreement. Had the PA done so, the CBA would’ve expired on Sept. 15, 2020. Instead, the agreement will remain in effect until Sept. 15, 2022. The PA’s announcement came after the league made a similar decision on Aug. 30. In a statement, PA executive director Donald Fehr indicated the players still have concerns about the current agreement....

Miami-Dade police raced to an efficiency unit at 925 SW 125th Court after they received reports that a man had been shot in the head at about 10 p.m. on Saturday. When officers arrived, they found 27-year-old Armando Alvarez’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, according to the Miami Herald. Following an investigation, police learned Alvarez’s landlord Samuel Omar Gonzalez, 34, and their girlfriends had a get-together earlier in the day when an argument occurred....

Over 70 workers were mining for jade Wednesday morning when a pile of dirt and waste from other nearby mines slid off a cliff and fell about 200 feet onto the miners, sweeping many of them into a lake. “About 150 rescue workers and firefighters are searching for the area, and we have found the body of a jade miner so far and keep finding others,” Gayunar Rescue Team official Nyo Chaw told the Associated Press....

The Corpus Christi surfer, known only as Jim, had been in the North Packery Channel on December 6 when he collided with a shark. Fellow surfer Tommy Shilts , who witnessed the incident, told 3NEWS: “He caught the bottom jaw of a pretty large shark, it looked like. But it just kind of bumped him from underneath.
